Chesapeake City

Suspension arch bridge

Picture 1 of 6

I visited Chesapeake City on Saturday, August 18, 2007 and took these pictures.

This is the current suspension arch bridge over the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal. This bridge was completed in 1949, after a tanker, the "Franz Klasen" struck the lift bridge, completely destroying it on July 28, 1942.

The bridge connects the southern portion of Chesapeake City with the northern part of town. The interesting historic buildings and shops are in the northern part of town.
