Raleigh Tavern

Picture 11 of 26

Raleigh Tavern, directly across the street from the King's Arms Tavern. The foremost of Williamsburg's taverns in the eighteenth century. Established about 1717. Letters, diaries, and other records indicate that the Raleigh was one of the most important taverns, and served as a center for social, commercial, and political gatherings. George Washington ate here often.
