Monument erected by Major General Daniel Butterfield in 1900 to commemorate the valor of the Fifth Corps of the Potomac and in loving memory of its heroic dead in the front of the National Cemetery, a burial ground for over 15,000 Union soldiers who died in the area during the Civil War.
